The valley runs radially away from the centre of the Nectaris basin toward the southeast, as Vallis Snellius does to its northeast. Once read as a tectonic trough, it is now interpreted as overlapping impact structures from Nectaris ejecta — one of the largest such lineations in the Janssen Formation.
