It is the most prominent escarpment on the Moon and the southwestern rim of the Nectaris basin. From the western edge of Piccolomini it arcs north, reaching nearly 1 km in height, and fades out around Theophilus, Cyrillus and Catharina. It is hard to find under a high Sun; it shows as a bright line about five days after new Moon and casts a long shadow about four days after full Moon.
