Posidonius is another floor-fractured crater, its interior raised by intrusion and broken by the Rimae Posidonius. The floor sits above the level of Mare Serenitatis beside it, and the inner ring visible within the crater is the uplifted block rather than a second rim.
Its position on the Serenitatis margin is not incidental: floor-fractured craters cluster around mare basins, where the crust was already being loaded and magma had a path upward.
